This might be a shock to people that don’t know me, but to the few that do, it won’t come as a surprise.
I am a HUGE mass transit supporter and geek. The reason for this is that I know that cars are not appliances that are only there to get you to work and back. They are in fact objects of passion and joy. I also with how bad most American drivers are and we need list like this to point out basic rules of the roads.
So here is why I think car guys should also be transit dorks!
1) If more and better transit is available then the people who are too scared/don’t want to drive will take it.
This is a good thing. If we get all the people off the road that don’t want to be there, it means there will be more open space on the road for people that do want to be there.
On the flip side
2) It will allow you to take transit when taking a car isn’t needed.
This is also a good thing. If you can leave you car and take a train/subway to where ever you need to go for work or in the evening this will put less wear and tear on you car, less chance of damage, less chance of tickets. It will also leave you less stress at the end of the day as you don’t have to deal with all the asshats trying to run you off the road while talking on the cell, doing makeup or have there dog in there lap licking there face. To me I would rather deal with people(and I have when I worked in SF and commuted from my home in the East Bay) on a train that the idiots during commute hours.
3)Less wear and tear on the roads we have.
This is a simple one. If we have less cars on the road, the roads will stay in better condition longer.
4)Choice.
I want to be able to make the choice when I travel, either I take a car, plain, train, boat, bike or walk, I want to have that choice. Right now I can’t, as Rail service is limited. Also with the Critical Mass nutjobs my chances of taking a bike a slim.
So ya while I don’t want you all to turn into foaming greenies I just want to get everyone to stop and think for a second.
